The stupid....it does burn....

Clearly there is a problem with the educational system in this land of ours...

Submitted for your approval...

Koshka Blackburn...a contestant on NBC's otherwise intellectually vacuous "Deal or NO Deal". (This is what passes for entertainment in our modern day Roman Empire.) Koshka had whittled down the choices of briefcases to TWO; one containing $5000 and the other $1,000,000. She was then presented a deal; accept $530,000 and walk away. A guaranteed half a million dollars was offered to her to NOT make the choice between the two briefcases. Wrap your head around this: She could leave with $530,00 more dollars than she came in with....

So what should Koshka the good God-fearing Christian do?

The answer is simple to anyone with a rudimentary understanding of a what a 50-50 proposition means. Who would bet their life on such odds. I think very few.

Poor Koshka, chose to give in to one of the deadly seven: G-R-E-E-D

And then to add insult to injury and in a mockery of her professed religion she incorrectly quoted from the Bible, Ezekiel 12:25:
"...but I wrote a check for myself for a million dollars, and I believe it's here [tapping her case]...I don't know, I don't know what to do, I just don't know...I know it's here, I know it's here! Howie, the contestants never go all the way, and I'm crazy. I'm too crazy. But I believe that if you speak it, it shall be done. So I'm gonna say, NO DEAL!"
And she lost...

See the arrogance for yourself.

Should have paid more attention to those sermons, Koshka...

Contrary to what Gordon Gecko said G-R-E-E-D is RARELY a good thing.

GREED cost you the half a million dollars that was offered to you. You thumbed your nose at your God and he made ya pay! In your world view what other conclusion could you come to other than maybe... sheer unadulterated stupidity!

The truly sad part of this story is the possibility of what DID not happen; had she picked the right case, there are those that would have used this incident to bolster the argument that God favors those that believe...completely glossing over the genesis of her choice...

PATHETIC!

Yet another reason while I stopped watching tv.

You said, "This is what passes for entertainment in our modern day Roman Empire."

Robert, have you read, "Are We Rome, the Fall of an Empire and the Fate of America," by Cullen Murphy?

The contestant said, "But I believe that if you speak it, it shall be done."

Apparently she placed omnipotent power in her own words, not the Almighty's. Maybe that's why there wasn't a million in her case...hahaha.

Nate...

I see many disturbing parallels between The United States and pre-fall Roman Empire...

Decadence, inflated self-importance, a lethargic and credulous populace...

It's disturbing...

I hate this show. Never watch it. But you're right, if she had picked the million dollar case she would have been featured in Osteen's next book.

I read once that the state lottery is a tax on people who did not pay attention in math class.

It's the truth!

Ah, what a curse.

I wonder if she still believes in that prosperity gospel crap anymore. This can't be the first time she spoketh a dud. But what a dud!

I have never watched that program, I doubt God was watching either. In fact I think God and I were having a "Walk and Talk" time about then.

Ah Christian...

You know I can't help but comment on such hypocrisy! ;)

I don't consider myself a fool - but sometimes my money sure seems to "depart" quite quickly! lol

Spot on.

How about...Imperialism (capitalistic imperialism) and peace-keeping via. conflict...

I thought I was so clever when I coined the term "Romerica," but soon realized I had probably heard it somewhere, at sometime.

Hang on. She walked away with $5k more than she started with. I count her a winner. It is only the greed for more that makes her seem like a loser.

Is her misplaced hope the thing that is so amusing? There's nothing the world loves more than the taste of dashed hopes.

An interesting point there hoverfrog!

I thought so.

Have you heard of an English show called Bullseye from the early 1980s? The host would always show the losers the prizes that they had failed to win. He'd say "Here's what you could've won" and the screen would come back revealing a speedboat or a car and a host of smaller prizes. I always thought it was a bit mean. Even if they walk away with nothing but a pen and some good memories they've still won something.

The only way to lose would be not to compete. If you go through life thinking about might-haves and maybes then you'll always be disappointed about something. It's more positive to enjoy what you do have and work to improve that than to lament lost opportunities.

i dont think she has misplaced Hope. i think shes just seeing God as her personal Genie. not very bright.

i dont think this is a "christian" thing as much as it is just ignorance and greed on an individuals part...who happens to boast of her "christianity" and yet again, making fools out of the rest of us. dang.

r - i completely agree with your rant here! rant on - i rant with you!

Can someone consider all the facts before pronouncing judgment? She went to the end because part of the offer was an opportunity that could only be earned by refusing everything.

This trip to Broadway was worth $7,000 in cash, but in addition to that has the rather noticable chance of exposing her talent to the world. That entirely changes the mechanics of this gamble, to the point where logic is completely irrelevant. Neither decision can be either smart or stupid.

The lesson is that one small factor can turn logic upside down. Since you seem to thrive so much on religious arguments, try and make this judgment without knowing everything: Suppose some man kills thirty people and is given the death penalty. Murder is a mortal sin which will send the unrepentant to hell. But can you logically assert that our mass murderer will be going to hell without knowing what happened between his crime and his execution? HINT: The key word is unrepentant.

Ughhh this is why I gave up Christian religion for people who hide behind the Bible or bully others into the Bible- oh wait historical data shows how the Templar Knights or who else under the Vatican would slaughter those who didn’t become Catholics. Why wait sooo many decades past to release information about the popes of the past..??? Hmm on yeah they had sex with woman when they were suppose to not get their dicks wets and be absent of sex? The Spaniard pope had three kids- Pope Alexander VI. So many cardinals back than slept with whores that they condemned others for- oh and their was the whole “buying your way into heaven” and giving to the cardinals back then who were not suppose to be rich as fuck…so they sin with greed. So go ahead and judge others and call them sinners. But the best thing I love to tell you- all your damn Catholics beliefs came from Wiccan traditions to convert Wiccan aka witches (male/females) to their religion. Also the Vatican used all the donation money to help those in need under Pope Julius II to trick out the interior of the Vatican with all that lovely artwork…oh and guess what he decided how is coffin was to be designed- in FUCKEN GOLD! That’s in an art history book bub. So go ahead. I just want to see if this lovely lady made it big on Broadway or not. Digging up history of religion makes me realize how horrible the humans are that blindly follow it and force it on others.

It only paid off if she actually got the role on Broadway. And that took her even further. But turning down that more than half a million dollars, was prideful, and greed. If she thinks about the what ifs forever, that was her doing, unfortunately , there's no second chances for that
