This is the state of thought in the street of the Muslim world.
We in the West, look at this and shake our collective heads.
I wonder though...
If my country, the United States, didn't have the safe guards in place that it does: the rule of law and a separation of church and state.
Could I be who I am and think as I do?
Would a Christian Fundamentalist Nation suffer an atheist to live?
Maybe it wouldn't be that bad, but would I not be a second-class citizen?
Are the rabidly fundamentalist types in our culture only held in check by a secular government?

Robert, saw all the heat you were taking over on GG's sight and thought I'd check out your blog. You have displayed exceptional grace under fire.
I wouldn't worry too much if that scenario you suggested should come to pass. Case in point, that quote of Jefferson's shows that the religious elite of the this country are capable of some tolerance of agnostics and atheists - as long as they don't rock the culural boat too much.
I am not too sure how well Muslims would fare.
...although you are little over the top concerning Bush. Is he really that powerful?
If the fundies would truly walk the walk then there wouldn't be a problem.

That's an excellent point. I do believe there are individuals that would like very much to impose a Christian 'sharia' law on our nation. But, I do think there are Christians who see the danger within such a proposition and actively oppose it as much as I do. so therefore, perhaps, it is impossible.

If I recall correctly, George Barna's polls indicate that a majority of American Christians don't believe Jesus is the only Way--and many of the other basics of Christianity--so, I think you're safe!
