This is the process:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4.Post the next three sentences.

Are you aware that I am sitting at work where I am literally surrounded by no less than 100 books!? To be fair they are books of a technical nature. So, I'll reference the book that is in my attache case right now: "The Reason Driven Life" by Robert M. Price
Alrighty then here it is:
"I have said before that I believe any doctrine of creation is inimical to the sense of wonder, which I regard as the central spiritual experience. Why? Because we prematurely answer the question of where the world came from by referring it to a Creator, a pseudo-answer that leaches the amazement from an amazing thing."
WOW! this 'meme' is rather spooky! It managed to highlight one of the central themes of the chapter in question.

Robert, we often hear about how believers can just open the bible anywhere and find a meaningful message. Guess, what we atheist can to. :)

Carl Sagan has MANY excellent books.
So it depends really what you want.
If you are looking for a book defining and defending the Scientific world view you can do no better than 'Cosmos' The book was published more almost 30 years ago but it is STILL extremely relevant. The companion television series that aired on PBS in the states is monumental! If you haven't seen this series BUT it you will not regret it!
If you are looking for a book that teaches the methods of critical thinking and the virtues of skepticism go no further than "Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark".
